Our visit has been terrific. The staff, both active duty and civilian, have gone out of their way to our stay pleasant.

Out dated and needs modern renovations

Great. Stayed in the Pine Tree. I was a little nervous walking to the room: the hallway carpet is a little old/sketchy (thought perhaps it was a sign of things to come), but once you get in the room, it's been updated. The room has a love seat (it doesn't pull out- other billeting rooms I've been to have had pull out sofa beds), chair, TV and DVD player in the living room area. The bed room area has another TV. It's about a 45 min to an hour drive if you want to see Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, or the Wind Caves. The added drive (especially the return trip after a long day in the sun) is a bit of an annoyance, but paying 60.00 a night for billeting vs. 100.00 or more (most places, much more) makes it well worth it. Plus, with the new Dining Facility policy, the DFAC/Chowhall is open to anyone on the base. Cheap healthy meals on base are so much better than cheap fast food, or expensive tourist trap meals close to the monuments/sights. Laundry is free (just need detergent), the freezer is on a mini fridge, but it has an actual door, which is great for keeping ice packs frozen. Lastly, I love being able to shop at the bx (it's small) for forgotten items, and the commissary for lunch items. If you plan on hitting the wildlife loop at Custer State Park, pick up a bag of carrots for the wild burros. We were there for three nights, didn't spend a ton of time in the room (the bed is a little small- but comfortable). It's not fancy and you won't get a lot of amenities (besides free coffee and laundry) but it's clean/safe and especially affordable considering the area.

The room had alot of great amenaties and the service was wonderful

We were in the TLF (Aspen) for one night enroute on a PCS. It was great! Very clean. Nice playground out back for the kids. And nice to cook a simple dinner instead of eating out (we are on a 16 day road trip for our PCS).
